Calling 2023-24 a lost season for the Memphis Grizzlies is an understatement.

A trendy "team of the future" candidate as recently as 2022, the Grizzlies have dealt with a litany of injuries this season en route to a 27–53 record. Their many maladies, coupled with guard Ja Morant's 25-game suspension to start the season, are responsible for Memphis's worst record since 2017-18.

For their penultimate regular-season game Friday evening against the Los Angeles Lakers, the Grizzlies have displayed to the NBA world how dire things are in the Volunteer State by listing 13 players on their injury report.

Count them.

Players sitting for Memphis Friday range from stars Morant and forward Jaren Jackson Jr. to names largely unfamiliar to casual fans, such as second-year guard Vince Williams Jr.

If you're a Lakers fan... well, you'd better win this one. If you're a Grizzlies fan, congratulations on not renouncing basketball altogether after a truly cursed trip around the sun.
