76ers Highlights: Embiid, Maxey Dazzle in Win Over Timberwolves

Sixers stars come up big against conference-leading Timberwolves

After suffering a heartbreaking loss to the Chicago Bulls on Monday, the Philadelphia 76ers were back in action on their home floor. Next up on the schedule was a meeting with Anthony Edwards and the Western Conference-leading Minnesota Timberwolves.

Despite a shaky start, the Sixers managed to find a groove against Minnesota. They ended up walking away with a 127-113 win, in large part due to the play of their two stars.

Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey did everything they could to make sure the Sixers got back in the win column. The star duo combined for 86 of the team's 127 points on Wednesday night.

Embiid had a tough challenge going against a jumbo-sized Timberwolves lineup, but it didn't prove to be a factor. The All-Star went on to post a season-high 51 points to go along with 12 rebounds and three assists.

No matter what the Wolves through at him, Embiid found a way to get it done. He scored in a variety of ways, including some emphatic dunks that led to MVP chants from the Philly crowd.

This was one of many dunks, including a thunderous slam Embiid laid down after sneaking baseline past Naz Reid.

Embiid got to the free-throw line at will, converting 17 of his 18 attempts. He also shot 68% from the field, knocking down 17 of his 25 attempts.

Maxey also turned in a big night against the Wolves, finishing with a stat line of 35 points and five assists. The frontcourt pairing of Rudy Gobert and Karl-Anthony Towns did not stop the young guard from having an array of explosives finishes around the rim.

The Sixers rising star also did damage from beyond the arc. He attempted 12 shots from three-point range and connected on five of them.

The Sixers are fresh off a weaker part of the schedule, but this matchup was a real test for them. They delivered in a big way, proving to the league that they should be viewed as a contender.

With this victory, the Sixers improve to 19-8 on the year. They will be in action again on Friday night, as they close out their home stand against Scottie Barnes and the Toronto Raptors
