76ers News: Sixers Sign Former G-League ROY to Two-Way Contract

Reports emerge that Kenneth Lofton Jr. will sign two-way deal with the Sixers

Fresh off an impressive win against the Toronto Raptors, the Philadelphia 76ers have made a new roster move. ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the team has agreed to terms on a two-way contract with Kenneth Lofton Jr. The 6-foot-7 forward was recently waived by the Memphis Grizzlies.

Woj also detailed the following move the Sixers made with this signing. In order to make room on the roster, they have parted ways with two-way player Javonte Smart.

Lofton, 21, has spent most of his NBA career playing in the G-League. His first year with the Memphis Hustle was so impressive that he walked away with G-League Rookie of the Year honors with averages of 20.2 points and 10.5 rebounds.

Prior to being waived by the Grizzlies, Lofton played in two G-League games this season. In that span, he averaged 24.0 PPG, 11.5 RPG, and 2.0 APG.

While a majority of his time was spent in the G-League, Lofton did get some opportunities to play with the Grizzlies. In total, he has 39 career NBA appearances under his belt. In that time, he's averaged 4.1 PPG and 1.7 RPG.

With this addition, the Sixers now add another promising young talent to the pipeline. Due the notable depth on the roster, Lofton will likely continue his journey in the G-League with the Delaware Blue Coats.

The Blue Coats currently find themselves third in the East standings with a record of 9-7. Fellow two-way player Ricky Council IV has been their top performer, averaging just over 24 points per game. He and the rest of the Blue Coats will soon have some reinforcements in the form of the reigning G-League ROY.

The next time the Blue Coats will be action is Wednesday, December 27th at home against the Capital City Go-Go.
