Since being traded from the Philadelphia 76ers two years ago, Ben Simmons has missed extended time due to injury. However, the former No. 1 pick might be in the lineup when the Brooklyn Nets travel to Philly later this week.

The Sixers traded Simmons to the Nets at the 2022 deadline in exchange for James Harden. Since then, he has played in just 49 total games across two and a half seasons. The main cause for him being sidelined is a recurring back injury.

Simmons played in the first six games of this season before being put on the shelf for an extended period. Months later, he has made his long-awaited return to the lineup. Simmons was in the lineup for the Nets on Monday against the Utah Jazz. He played 18 minutes off the bench and finished with a stat line of 10 points, eight rebounds, and 11 assists.

The Sixers are in the midst of a road trip out West at the moment but return home this weekend. On Saturday, they'll host the Nets in the first of a four-game homestand.

With Simmons making his return this week, it opens the door for him to suit up against the Sixers. That said, anything could change between now and Saturday. Even though Simmons was an All-NBA-level player during his tenure in Philly, it's unlikely a warm reception will be waiting for him.

This will not be the first time Simmons plays in Philly following the trade. His first homecoming was back in November of 2022. Simmons logged 32 minutes that night and finished with a box score of 11 points, seven rebounds, 11 assists, three steals, and three blocks. However, the Sixers ended up going on to win the game.
