76ers: Three Takeaways from Win vs. Celtics

In this story:
Wednesday night saw what could be considered the Philadelphia 76ers' biggest match of the season so far as they took on the Boston Celtics, who they shared the top spot in the Eastern Conference with going into the game.
While coming away with the win, the match was close until the end, including three ties and four lead changes throughout the match.
Joel Embiid led the way for Philadelphia's offense, scoring 27 points, with notable performances from Kelly Oubre Jr and Tobias Harris, who combined for 31 points.
Elsewhere on the court, De'Anthony Melton had a lackluster night from the field, scoring three points on eleven percent shooting.
For the Celtics, Kristaps Porzingis proved to be quite the challenge for the Sixers to stop, as the Latvian superstar put up 29 points, including two makes from down town.
With their win against Boston on Wednesday night, Philadelphia moves to the top of the Eastern Conference standings.
What Were The Takeaways?
Joel Embiid's big third quarters continue
For the second straight game, Embiid more than delivered in the third quarter for the Sixers, helping extend the lead over the Celtics on Wednesday night.
While not as impressive as the 29 point lights out performance he had against the Washington Wizards on Monday night, his 13 point quarter, included two makes from beyond the arch as well as two makes from the free throw stripe.
Tyrese Maxey continues to be Philadelphia's offensive engine
While Embiid lead the Sixers in scoring, Tyrese Maxey proved that he can be the second engine for Nick Nurse's system, dropping 25 points.
The timing of Maxey's scoring outburst can't be understated with the 23-year-old dropping 11 points in the closing quarter, when the team needed him the most.
While his assists numbers were as they high as they have been as of late, the former Kentucky guard made his presence felt on the defensive end, coming up with two big blocks as well as eight defensive rebounds.
Capitalizing on a slow night from Brown and Tatum
While usually being the big hitters for the Celtics, both Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown were notably quiet throughout the match.
This comes despite Tatum dropping 14 points, which falls well below his average of 30.5 points per game so far this season, rather making up for this deficit by collecting a game high 15 rebounds.
Brown on the other hand struggled throughout the match, recording four turn overs, while struggling to shoot above 31% from the field.
Even when he was struggling, Brown was able to still make the Sixers' sweat as he hit a clutch step back three late into the fourth quarter which put the game into a one possession game.
