Bucks' Giannis Antetokounmpo Reacts to Blockbuster Luka Doncic, Anthony Davis Trade

In this story:
The entire NBA universe was shaken when word broke out on Saturday night that the Los Angeles Lakers had traded 10-time All-Star power forward/center Anthony Davis to the Dallas Mavericks as part of a three-team deal that landed All-NBA superstar guard Luka Doncic in Tinseltown, to play alongside 21-time All-Star L.A. power forward LeBron James.
Per Shams Charania of ESPN, the Lakers are shipping out Davis, starting shooting guard Max Christie, point guard Jalen Hood-Schifino, an unprotected 2029 first round pick, and the Clippers' second round pick this summer (which L.A. possessed from a prior deal) in the deal. Davis, Christie, and the first rounder are heading to Dallas, while Hood-Schifino and the Clippers pick are being rerouted to the Utah Jazz.

Stunningly, the Mavericks are sending Doncic and big men Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris to Los Angeles, and are trading their own 2025 second round pick to the Jazz.
Yes, this is real. Sources tell ESPN: Full trade:

- Lakers: Luka Doncic, Maxi Kleber, Markieff Morris
- Mavericks: Anthony Davis, Max Christie, 2029 LAL 1st
- Jazz: Jalen Hood-Schifino, 2025 Clippers 2nd, 2025 Mavericks 2nd https://t.co/bltojdTaQj
Nine-time All-Star Milwaukee Bucks power forward Giannis Antetokounmpo took to X to weigh in on the deal with two simple emojis, essentially stating that the Mavericks' decision to move on from Doncic, who at age 25 and coming off an NBA Finals appearance is entering his pro prime, is an indicator of a "cold world."

This deal would have been at least somewhat understandable if Doncic had found a way to force the Mavericks' hand and maneuver a trade to the Lakers specifically. But according to NBA insider Marc Stein, that is not the case. Dallas of its own volition got just a single first round pick back in the deal.
For comparison, the New York Knicks had to trade five future first round selections to add small forward Mikal Bridges — who, unlike Doncic, has never been an All-Star let alone an All-NBA First Teamer — this past summer.
Luka Dončić did NOT request a trade, league sources tell @TheSteinLine.

The Mavericks did this on their own accord, getting back Anthony Davis but only one future first-round pick from the Lakers in 2029 for a 25-year-old regarded as a future MVP.

This season, the 6-foot-6 Doncic has played somewhat sparingly in 2024-25. He's been out since a 105-99 Christmas Day loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves due to a lingering calf injury, but is expected to return at some point early this month.
Acros 22 healthy contests, Doncic is averaging 28.1 points while slashing .464/.354/.767, 8.3 rebounds, 7.8 assists, and 2.0 steals in his 22 healthy games. He has finished among the top eight in MVP voting across each of the past five seasons, and including a career-best third-place finish last year.
