Coby White is blossoming before everyone’s eyes this season. After showcasing how dangerous a three-point threat he is, making at least three triples in 14 straight contests, the former Tar Heel is now showing he can be a nightly triple-double threat, averaging 24.0 points, 8.3 assists, and 7.3 rebounds in the last three games.

Still searching for his first career triple-double, White has come close in the previous three games but has fallen short in the rebounding department.

Rebounds not going his way

As easy as Russell Westbrook and Luka Doncic have made it look, it’s not easy to collar rebounds at a high rate as a guard. At 6-foot-5, White’s size gives him an advantage in that department, but whether it’s been his positioning or luck, he hasn’t had the necessary bounces to get him over the top.

“The rebounds would be tough because it’s just hard to track them,” White said.

“The game I had 11 assists, I had like seven rebounds, and those two or three just didn’t come my way.”

In Monday’s win over the Sixers, White had 24 points, nine assists and eight rebounds. Last week against the Heat, he had 26 points, 11 assists, and seven boards, so the rebounds are slowly coming.

Doesn't really mind missing out on the triple-double

Triple-doubles are a cherished achievement in basketball, and while the average fan may have their eyes peeled for it, White doesn’t mind missing out on one. He’s after the team’s achievements, and if it means letting the big men or someone else grab a board, he’s all for it.

“Vooch prides himself on getting every rebound, so if it’s between me and him or someone else, I would never [get it],” White said.

“I know how much pride he takes in getting 15 or 20 rebounds. If a triple-double comes to me, it comes to me. If it doesn’t, it doesn’t.”

Billy Donovan cites Coby White's growth in pick-and-roll situations as a reason for his success
