Happy Birthday Michael Jordan!

Michael Jordan turns 60 years old today. Considered one of the greatest basketball players of all time, Jordan ranks 10th among the winningest NBA players with six championships. MJ lead the Bulls to two three-peats, the first from 1991 to 1993 and then again from 1996 to 1998, after his return from playing baseball.

Unbeatable CV

Not only did he win six NBA championships, but Jordan is also a six-time NBA Finals MVP, a five time NBA MVP, a 14-time NBA All-Star with 11 All-NBA selections as well.

Jordan’s also a two-time NBA Slam Dunk Contest champion and he won 10 NBA scoring titles. He has the highest career playoff scoring average (33.4 points per game), and he’s a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame since 2009.

What drove Jordan

Renowned life coach and business consultant Tony Robbins recalled Jordan’s explanation about what made him the best in the world.

“Michael Jordan, I remember I interviewed him years ago, and I said “what makes you the best in the world? Is it skill, is it talent, is it ability, is it background, is it training?” He said, “I didn’t even make the high school basketball team my sophomore year, I was cut. What it is is every day I demand more from myself than anybody else could possibly expect. I don’t compete with other people. I compete with what I’m capable of.” Robbins explained.

Jordan’s intensity in practice was a key to his success. “Practicing against him [Jordan] go heads up, I knew what he was and who he was and as far as him being perhaps the greatest player to play the game. And to know that what I saw in practice was the same stuff that I faced in a game but now I saw it in practice, so I knew what he was about,” former teammate Craig Hodges told VladTV.

MJ has an 11-0 record in the NBA Finals, gold medal games at the Olympics, FIBA, and the NCAA Tournament Final. MJ is the only player in league history to score at least 20 points in all his NBA Finals games, and win the NBA MVP, NBA Finals MVP, NBA All-Star Game MVP, NBA Defensive Player of the Year, and NBA Rookie of the Year awards.

Jordan never backed down from a challenge, he pushed himself and his teammates and replicated his intensity in practice against the rest of the NBA.
