Michael Jordan will celebrate his 60th birthday in magnanimous fashion—by donating a whopping $10 million to the Make-A-Wish Foundation Wednesday. The donation is the largest individual donation the organization has received in its 43-year history.

Inspired by children fighting these battles

The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions. Jordan, a six-time NBA champion and five-time MVP, said he was inspired by the courage and strength of these children facing adversity and saw it fit to donate the humongous amount to help the organization.

“For the past 34 years, it’s been an honor to partner with Make-A-Wish and help bring a smile and happiness to so many kids,” said Jordan. “Witnessing their strength and resilience during such a tough time in their lives has truly been an inspiration."

Longtime supporter

Chicago Bulls icon has been an ardent supporter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation since 1989. As his stature and popularity grew due to his incredible on-court skills and remarkable off-court charm, so did his support for the foundation. In the following years, Jordan granted hundreds of wishes, and in 2008, he was named Make-A-Wish Chief Wish Ambassador for the life-changing impact he has had on wish kids and their families.

Jordan added that as he celebrates his birthday, he hopes that others will celebrate it with him by donating whatever they can to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

"I can’t think of a better birthday gift than seeing others join me in supporting Make-A-Wish so that every child can experience the magic of having their wish come true,” MJ concluded.
