The Cleveland Cavaliers Clinch Spot In The 2023 NBA Playoffs

The Cleveland Cavaliers clinch a spot in the 2023 NBA Playoffs as they beat the Houston Rockets.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are officially heading back to the NBA Playoffs after almost a five-year absence.

The last time the Cavs were in the playoffs was back in 2018 when LeBron James led them to the NBA Finals where they lost to the Golden State Warriors. LeBron would then leave Cleveland that offseason and head to the Los Angeles Lakers which immediately marked the beginning of the Cavs' rebuild.

Cleveland spent the next few years drafting young talents such as Collin Sexton, Darius Garland, Isaac Okoro, and Evan Mobley and trading for other pieces such as Caris LeVert, Jarrett Allen, and Lauri Markkanen.

The Cavs found themselves in the play-in tournament during the 2021-22 season, but injuries exposed how thin the team was.

After this, they went out and traded for superstar Donovan Mitchell and made him the leader of this acceding team. The fit has been seamless and Mitchell has embraced his role on the Cavs and the city of Cleveland.

It also doesn't hurt that Spida is in having himself a career year. He's averaging a career-high 27.5 points per game, scored 71 points in a single game, and even was an All-Star starter for the first time.

The Cavs officially sealed the deal on Sunday evening with a 108-91 victory over the Houston Rockets. This victory gave Cleveland their 47th win of the season, which already surpasses last season's win total of 44.

Even though the Cavs have officially punched their ticket to the Playoffs, the work isn't done. They have much higher aspirations this season and don't want to be a first-round exit.
