Austin Reaves Reveals Why Eliminating Grizzlies Was Extra Satisfying

In this story:
It's no secret that the Memphis Grizzlies rubbed a lot of people the wrong way last season. From Ja Morant's infamous "fine in the West" comments, to the frequent battles picked by Dillon Brooks, the Grizzlies put a target on their back last year. This made their first round exit to the Los Angeles Lakers that much more humbling for Memphis, because they realized just how far they were from backing up their talk.
Recently appearing on the Full Send Podcast, Lakers guard Austin Reaves revealed why beating Memphis in the playoffs was so satisfying, saying, "All of Memphis, honestly. Their whole team talks sh-t. It felt good beating them in the playoffs."
Reaves said there was nothing that crossed the line from Memphis, as everybody understands there's things you cannot say, but beating the Grizzlies was extra satisfying for the Lakers guard because of how vocal they are.
After being humbled by the Lakers, and then losing Dillon Brooks to the Houston Rockets, it will be interesting to see if the Grizzlies maintain their same approach next season. Several players have talked about the need to be more mature next season, so it's possible the team scales back the bulletin board material they so often gave opponents.
Without Ja Morant for the first 25 games of next season, the Grizzlies will be facing an uphill battle out of the gate.
