It was reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Ramona Shelburne that the Golden State Warriors contacted the Los Angeles Lakers about a potential LeBron James trade prior to the deadline, but James and the Lakers were not interested in such a deal.

"In the end, the answer was returned resoundingly on the eve of the trade deadline: Paul told Lacob and Warriors GM Mike Dunleavy Jr., that James had no interest in a trade and wanted to remain a Laker, sources said," ESPN reported. "When Dunleavy reached out to Lakers GM Rob Pelinka in those pretrade deadline hours, Dunleavy had been told the same: The Lakers wanted to keep James, sources said."

During a recent episode of Gil's Arena, former NBA star and Memphis Grizzlies guard Gilbert Arenas reacted to this news, saying, "I'm pretty sure they're not gonna say who they were gonna trade because it didn't happen and you don't want to let all those players over there know that we almost got ya'll the f--k up out of here."

Arenas said because of the package Golden State would have needed to send out, he doesn't think they would have been considered a super-team, despite having James and Steph Curry.

"If I'm getting traded to the Golden State Warriors and Kuminga is gone, Klay is gone, Wiggins is gone, the f--k do I really have? Just me and Steph [Curry] and Draymond [Green]? We're not winning a championship," Arenas said.

This was a wild report, but it seems there was never any real possibility of James to the Warriors happening.
