Memphis Grizzlies star Desmond Bane underwent surgery at the beginning of the offseason to address a fracture of the medial sesamoid bone in his right big toe. Bane recently revealed that he has been progressing well in his rehab, which is great to hear. In another interview, Bane revealed the reasoning behind his decision to get surgery, saying it was the best for his career long-term.

"It was a decision to get the surgery after the season, you know, what's ultimately best for me moving forward and for the rest of my career," Bane said. "As far as rehab goes, we're right on schedule, but everything is progressing well."

Not wanting to be shortsighted, Bane made the decision to address this fracture with surgery as soon as his offseason began. Having played through it for some time last season, Bane did not want to risk any further injury by delaying the surgery longer than needed.

The Grizzlies made a statement in May on Bane's procedure that said the star guard is expected to make a full recovery ahead of the 2023-24 season, which was great to hear. The Grizzlies will already be without Ja Morant for the first 25 games of the season, due to his suspension from the NBA, so they certainly do not want to be missing another star player in his absence.
