In this story:

Memphis Grizzlies star Desmond Bane underwent a procure to address a fracture of the medial sesamoid bone in his right big toe earlier this offseason. The surgery was announced by the Grizzlies at the beginning of the offseason, when they also added that Bane was expected to make full recovery by the beginning of next season. So far every update from Bane has been consistent with that initial prediction from the Grizzlies.

Recently speaking with The Memphis Commercial Appeal at his skills academy, Bane was asked about his recovery, and said, "I'm not quite cleared to play contact yet, but as far as working out on the court, I feel like my body is in a pretty good spot."

While Bane is not yet taking contact, it's great to hear that his body feels good doing on-court work. This is always a big step for players in their rehab, because while certain exercises and movements can serve as milestones in the recovery process, nothing can directly replicate on-court reps. The same is true about taking contact, so that will of course be another big step for Bane once he's cleared to do so.

The good news for Bane and the Grizzlies, is that the star guard seems to have avoided any setbacks up until this point. With Ja Morant out for the first 25 games, Memphis will certainly need Bane healthy and available to begin next season, and it looks like he will be.
