Dallas Mavericks' Kyrie Irving-Luka Doncic Still A Work In Progress Entering Saturday's Game Against Miami Heat

The Miami Heat face the dynamic duo Saturday in a pivotal game at Miami-Dade Arena

The Miami Heat get a look at perhaps the NBA's most interesting duo Saturday night when they face the Dallas Mavericks

The Mavs are led by Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic, who are still trying to figure things out since being paired at the trade deadline. The Mavs are just 5-5 since the addition of Irving.

The Mavs enter having lost five of the last six games.

"It's been a scramble since I've been here," Irving said after Wednesday's loss to the Philadelphia 76ers. "So, trying to fill in roles that kind of fill in from other people. And I think the realistic view is that when I came here, this was going to be a growing process. This was for the long term, and this was for something that's bigger than ourselves, and we can't just be a championship team overnight, especially me coming here. "So I think I've wrapped my head around that aspect of it. I'm at peace with it. It doesn't mean that I'm giving up on this season or any of my teammates are, but we know where we realistically are, and our destiny is in some other team's hands losing games."

Despite the struggles, Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison still thinks the combo could work. They just need time.

"The potential is limitless," Harrison told the Dallas Morning News. "I think you have a Ferrari and a monster truck, you know what I’m saying? Both amazing and awesome machines, but different styles, which makes us super dynamic. They can play off each other. They can play with each other. The combinations are limitless, really, and there’s not that many players in the league that are as good as those two are. Then it’s like, “OK, how do these guys who are — I don’t want to say role players — but filling a role, how do they fit in?” That’s really the other part."
