ESPN is anticipated to cut 20 of their on-air analysts for financial costs, per New York Post’s Andrew Marchand. Among those is NBA commentator Jeff Van Gundy, who was Pat Riley’s assistant coach on the New York Knicks from 1991 to 1995.

Van Gundy called several Finals games alongside Mike Breen and Mark Jackson. He most recently called the Miami Heat vs. Denver Nuggets Finals. Van Gundy said the Heat’s postseason run “says a lot about their competitive spirit, their culture, Pat Riley, and the job Erik Spoesltra continues to do at an all-time elite level.”

He is among the biggest names to be let go this morning, along with Jalen Rose and Max Kellerman. Several other prominent personalities are in jeopardy of losing their positions at ESPN as well.

Hopefully, the sports network can find viewership in the absence of these stars going forward. Given Van Gundy’s basketball expertise and vibrant personality, it shouldn’t be hard for him to get opportunities elsewhere.
