Would Jimmy Butler Play Second Fiddle To Damian Lillard As Miami Heat Teammates?

In this story:
Yes, the Damian Lillard speculation is probably exhausting to hear.
But while the trade talks continue to stall, we might as well entertain some discussions of his possible role on the Miami Heat.
Jimmy Butler is the undisputed leader. As arguably one of the greatest playoff performers in league history, he has raised the standard of South Florida basketball since his arrival in 2019. But even for his impressive numbers, Lillard still has the edge in scoring. It means he takes the lead scoring role.
He brings one of the greatest shooters in the game, giving the Heat a multi-level threat in the backcourt. They have Lillard from the arc while Butler thrives in the mid-range game.
This is not a knock on Butler, though. In fact, Lillard’s role is a more suitable fit for him and Bam Adebayo. Butler can facilitate and produce high-level scoring without having to carry the team nearly every occasion. Meanwhile, Adebayo can focus on rebounding and defense without the expectation to constantly drop 20 points behind Butler.
Lillard’s arrival takes pressure off Butler and Adebayo to constantly perform at high levels. Butler’s otherworldly performances could only hold up for so long until eventually declining. Adebayo improved last postseason but still struggles with aggression and consistency.
So there is no shame in Butler and Adebayo becoming No. 2 and No. 3 scoring should the Lillard acquisition occur.
