Miami Heat Playoff Rooting Guide April 3rd, 2026

In this story:
The Miami Heat did themselves no favors with their latest loss to the Boston Celtics making their goal of escaping a fourth straight trip to the play-in even harder.
The Sacramento Kings helped the Heat the other night by beating the Toronto Raptors, but if Miami fails to do their job over their last 5 games, none of it matters as Miami now finds themselves as the East's ten seed, 2.5 games back of the 6th seeded 76ers.
With Miami off on Friday their are some matchups worth watching that will effect Miami's playoff seeding.
With the Hornets defeating the Suns tonight, the Heat remains in 10th place in the East and falls one game behind the No. 8 Hornets.

6. 76ers (42-34)
7. Raptors (42-34)
8. Hornets (41-36)
9. Magic (40-36)
10. Heat (40-37)
1. Pacers Over Hornets

The team that just beat the Heat can now help the Heat by defeating the surging Hornets. Indiana has proven that they can still compete with anyone and will surely be right back atop the Eastern Conference next season. A win over the Hornets would put Miami a half game behind Charlotte.
2. Timberwolves Over 76ers

This game serves as the most important and most likely of the bunch as the 76ers currently sit as the 6th seed. Minnesota is coming off a tough loss to the Detroit Pistons and will be playing on the second night of a back-to-back, potentially without Anthony Edwards. A Timberwolves win would put Miami 2 back of Philadelphia.
3. Mavericks Over Magic

The Magic have underperformed expectations this season, but dominated the Heat in all 5 matchups meaning every Orlando loss is crucial to Miami's seeding. The Mavericks have a young gritty team led by the potential rookie of the year Cooper Flagg and can most certainly defeat the inconsistent Magic.
4. Nets Over Hawks

This is here, because it could help, but the Nets aren't beating the Hawks. The good thing for the Heat is they can still secure the tiebreaker over Atlanta if Miami were to run the table and the Hawks lost out after the Nets game, a possible reality as Atlanta faces the Knicks, Cavaliers x2, and the Heat.
5. Grizzlies Over Raptors

The Raptors already lost to the Kings at home, and the Grizzlies young pieces have shown the ability to mix in a random upset as they beat a healthy Nuggets team just two weeks ago. A Grizzlies win would give Miami the possibility to pass the Raptors in the coming days as the two teams play in back-to-back contests.
Now some of these results are unlikely, but this is the point of the season we are at, and these are the games worth monitoring Friday for the Miami Heat's playoff positioning. Once again, those who are cheering for draft picks and Miami to miss the playoffs, simply root for the opposite result.
Miami has 5 games remaining and will have to win all 5 to escape the play-in.
