Lakers' Luka Doncic Future Plans in LA Revealed: Report

In this story:
Lakers star Luka Doncic has been with the team for less than half a year, yet he has seemingly settled in well and appears committed to the future.
Doncic is signed through next season, but he has a player option for the 2026-2027 season, which makes signing the Slovenian player to an extension a top priority.
According to Lakers insider Tim MacMahon of ESPN, who appeared on the Dan Patrick Show, Doncic is committed to Los Angeles.

"His heart was broken, but he's fully committed to the Lakers. His goal now is to win championships with that franchise," MacMahon said.
The Lakers gave up a 2029 first-round pick, Max Christie, and Anthony Davis in exchange for Doncic, a trade that shocked the basketball world so profoundly it has yet to recover.
The price was steep if the Lakers were only going to get a season and a half of Doncic, but a long-term stay looks likely.

This summer, the star can sign an extension worth almost $230 million for four years, though it is likely he will take a one or two year deal to resign later on when the salary cap expands.
The Lakers were eliminated from the first round of the playoffs, losing in five games to the energetic Minnesota Timberwolves.
Now that a whirlwind season is over, Doncic is looking forward to having a full preseason with the team and getting more settled into a roster that was constructed on the fly.

During the exit interviews for the season, JJ Redick expanded upon what he hopes to get from Luka going forward.
“I think our first conversation when he flew into L.A. that night, he wants to be coached. He wants to be held accountable,” Redick told the media.
“And I think he’s expressed to me and what I’ve expressed to him is very similar. I want to bring out the best version of Luka. And that’s what he wants from me. And so that’s the partnership going forward. That’s the expectation. And that’s the baseline of what we’re trying to do. Let’s try to bring out the best version of Luka and hopefully win a championship doing that.”
