Pelicans Odds For Winning The 2023 NBA Summer League Title

In this story:
New Orleans, LA - The New Orleans Pelicans are back on the court Friday with a fair chance of winning the NBA Summer League Championship. BetOnline sportsbook gives the team 25/1 odds, which puts them in 15th place for winning their first Summer League title. New Orleans will tip off against the Minnesota Timberwolves on July 7.
The NBA-style tournament began with only six teams representing the league in 2004. Today, all 30 teams will be participating with an opportunity to play in the championship game on July 17.
The Pelicans have yet to participate in a Summer League title. Still, they are fielding a solid team this season with first-round sharpshooter Jordan Hawkins, second-year guard Dyson Daniels, and second-year forward E.J. Liddell participating in the event. Assistant coach Casey Hill will serve as head coach for New Orleans.
Liddell heads into Summer League fully healthy after suffering a season-ending ACL injury last Summer League. The injury caused Liddell to miss the entire 2022-2023 NBA season. New Orleans recently converted his two-way contract into a multi-year deal with the team.
The New Orleans Pelicans fans will be excited to see forward Karlo Matkovic play for their team. Matkovic, like Liddell, sustained an injury during the previous summer tournament. The Pelicans picked Matkovic and Liddell in the second round of the 2022 NBA Draft. Matkovic was a "draft and stash" prospect last season, playing overseas.
According to the Vegas odds makers, the Oklahoma City Thunder (7/1), Portland Trail Blazers (9/1), and Indiana Pacers (10/1) are the teams with the highest chances of winning. New Orleans is not scheduled to play these teams on their four-game slate. However, the Pelicans could match up with the favorites if they advance in the tournament.
