The Los Angeles Lakers and Anthony Davis have agreed to a three-year, $186 million max extension through 2028.  As the 2023-24 season approaches, Davis had a year remaining on his contract valued at $40 million, with a player option for the following year worth slightly over $43 million.  The new agreement sets a new record in NBA history as the most lucrative annual extension.  Davis will receive an average of $62 million per season.

DAVIS WITH NEW ORLEANS

Davis, 30, was the first overall selection from the University of Kentucky by the New Orleans Pelicans in the 2012 NBA Draft.   He played for New Orleans from 2012 to 2019. While playing for the Pelicans, he was recognized as a part of the NBA All-Rookie First Team and was honored three times as a member of the All-NBA First Team in 2015, 2017, and 2018.  In addition, he has been recognized for his defensive skills, earning NBA All-Defensive Second Team honors twice (in 2015 and 2017) and leading the league in blocks in 2014, 2015, and 2018.  Davis has also made multiple appearances in NBA All-Star games, and in 2017, he was awarded the MVP Trophy.

New Orleans traded to Los Angeles in July 2019 in exchange for Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball, Josh Hart, and three first-round draft picks.  One of the picks was the Lakers' 2019 No. 4 overall pick.  New Orleans ended up winning the NBA Lottery despite having only a 6 percent chance, which granted them the opportunity to select the No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft.  The Pelicans used the selection to choose Duke University's forward Zion Williamson.

Davis partnered with LeBron James to win the 2020 NBA Championship for the Los Angeles Lakers.
