Houston Rockets Rumors: Extensions Coming for Jalen Green, Alperen Sengun?

Jalen Green and Alperen Sengun will be free agents in 2025, and the Houston Rockets could look to prevent them from testing the market.

The Houston Rockets rebuild unofficially began on draft night in 2021 when the team selected Jalen Green with the No. 2 overall pick and traded with the Oklahoma City Thunder to take Alperen Sengun with the No. 16 pick.

The two have had ups and downs throughout their tenure with the Rockets, but each have posted their best season in Houston under new coach Ime Udoka this year.

According to ClutchPoints, the Rockets have interest in keeping Sengun with the team long-term.

"After pursuing a big man in free agency last summer and trading for veteran Steven Adams this year, the Rockets have not given any indications that they will look to move Sengun," ClutchPoints writes. "The 21-year-old has one more year left on his rookie contract, and the team has interest in a long-term extension, league sources said."

Sengun, who turns 22 this summer, has averaged a career-best 21.1 points and 9.3 rebounds per game this season.

As for Green, his recent ascent has had fans turning a 180 on him. Green was involved in trade rumors at the deadline last month, but he now also seems primed for a contract extension.

"The same mindset of keeping their young, rising talents around exists for Green as well," ClutchPoints writes. "Despite rumors suggesting that the Rockets were bringing up Green's name in trade rumors, they are confident in his ability to be a star for the foreseeable future. Like Sengun, Green will be eligible for an extension this upcoming offseason as he enters the final year of his rookie contract."

As for whether or not Green will return to the trade market, the Rockets don't appear likely to do that either.

"The belief from rival organizations in the Western Conference is that the Rockets will only include Green or Sengun in trade talks if they can land an All-Star quality player, who is not on an expiring deal, in return," ClutchPoints writes.

However, given the fact that Green and Sengun are taking big leaps just as they turn 22 years old, the potential for both of them to be All-Stars someday is high. And the Rockets would like to continue that development as they move into the prime of their careers.
