Forbes Believes Suns Should Sign Carmelo Anthony

The Suns need scoring off the bench; can Carmelo Anthony provide that in Phoenix?

There's little wiggle room on the Phoenix Suns' roster.

For a team that's accomplished plenty on the court in the last two years, there's not a whole lot of major construction that's needed to be done. Not with Chris Paul, Devin Booker, Mikal Bridges, Deandre Ayton and Cameron Johnson as your main core.

However, Phoenix has fallen short of their goal of capturing a franchise-first NBA title, and the team will be looking for any avenue possible to improve their weaknesses where they can.

Plenty of fans have harped on the inability to produce scoring off the bench, and while Damion Lee looks to help in that aspect, Forbes' Tom Rende says the Suns should look at another option as well:

Should Phoenix Sign Carmelo Anthony?

Carmelo Anthony

The Suns, listed with the Brooklyn Nets and Atlanta Hawks, wouldn't be a bad option for Anthony.

"There are not many open roster spots remaining in the NBA, and there are not a ton of young teams that would actively want the contributing production of Anthony. The Phoenix Suns fall into the former of these descriptions. They pretty much have a set roster at this point, even though they could use another body at the power forward position," said Rende.

"A healthy Dario Saric, in theory, gives the team the option to use a smaller lineup, but it is more than likely that the team continues its trend of utilizing a traditional center at all times. Anthony could be paired with a defensive specialist (Mikal Bridges, Josh Okogie) with one of the traditional centers in order to give some added spacing to the floor.

"The Suns obviously have their sights set on rebounding from a brutal playoff loss to the Dallas Mavericks– Anthony will not likely help much throughout the postseason. But he can be an innings eater during the regular season to take some of the weight off of Jae Crowder and Mikal Bridges so they can stay fresh when April rolls around."

Anthony (38-years-old) is considered to be one of the league's best scorers, and still has plenty to offer. Anthony has an effective field goal percentage of 48.5%, 50.6% and 54.4% in his last three years played.

He's averaged 39% shooting from downtown, has played in no less than 58 games the last three seasons and came with a cap hit of $1.6 million last year.
