PHOENIX -- The Phoenix Suns wrapped up a round of coaching interviews over the weekend, and now Arizona Sports' John Gambadoro is reporting the search is now down to three names.

"The Phoenix Suns have narrowed their head-coaching search to Doc Rivers, Frank Vogel and Kevin Young as they prepare to fill the vacancy left by the firing of Monty Williams," said Gambadoro in an early Tuesday morning report.

"A hire could be made as early as the end of this week."

There were initially more coaching candidates listed for Phoenix heading into last weekend, which included Nick Nurse (now the head coach of the Philadelphia 76ers) and Kenny Atkinson/Jordi Fernandez, two assistant coaches who simply didn't make the cut.

The Suns are attempting to replace Monty Williams, who was fired after four seasons at the helm in Phoenix. New heights such as the 2021 NBA Finals and a franchise record 64 regular season wins were reached, but the Suns were ultimately unable to capture a championship with a roster many believed very capable of doing so.

After exiting the second round of the postseason in embarrassing fashion in back to back years, new Suns owner Mat Ishbia reportedly made the decision to fire Williams, somebody who he reportedly didn't mesh well with when first arriving back at the trade deadline.

Whoever takes over in Phoenix will inherit a roster that features the likes of Kevin Durant and Devin Booker. Pieces such as Deandre Ayton or Chris Paul are currently also on the roster but could be moved at some point.

Vogel/Rivers have championship experience under their belt while Young reportedly has the backing of players in Phoenix.
