Former Suns Center Bismack Biyombo Signing With New Team

Former Phoenix Suns center Bismack Biyombo has finally found a new team.

PHOENIX -- Former Phoenix Suns center Bismack Biyombo has finally found a new team, according to The Athletic's Shams Charania.

"The Memphis Grizzlies are planning to sign center Bismack Biyombo, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Team is able to sign Biyombo via exemption after fifth game of Ja Morant’s suspension. Biyombo brings rim protection (1.4 blocks per game last season) with Steven Adams out."

Biyombo was an unrestricted free agent heading into this summer. Last season, his contract AAV was $2.9 million. Biyombo played in 61 games for the Suns in 2022-23 and averaged 4.3 points, 4.3 rebounds and 0.9 assists on 57.8% shooting.

Biyombo (30 years old) first landed in Phoenix on a ten-day contract on Jan. 1 2022 and was re-signed last offseason by the Suns.

As Charania already pointed out, the Grizzlies lost Steven Adams for the season with a knee injury. Biyombo provides a physical presence down low with little offensive upside.

Biyombo will be able to join after Memphis' fifth game, which will be on Nov. 1. They're currently 0-3 on the season thus far.

When it comes to protecting the rim, not many can do it like Biyombo:

The Suns are off to a 2-1 start to the regular season and will play the San Antonio Spurs twice this week (Tuesday/Thursday).

They'll face the Grizzlies first on Friday, Nov. 24.
