Suns Reclaim Minor Control Over Future Draft Picks

The Phoenix Suns are all in on their championship push, and thus there hasn't been an emphasis on draft picks - especially after trades for Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal in recent memory.

However, the Suns continued their shuffle of draft capital after last night's trade with the Memphis Grizzlies - which included three second-round picks coming back to Phoenix in exchange for the recently acquired Isaiah Todd and future pick swaps in the first round.

Per ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski:

"The Grizzlies are sending a 2025 second-round pick via the New Orleans Pelicans and their own second-rounders in 2028 and 2029, sources said. These second-rounders give the Suns some picks to use in future trades, or to draft players themselves.

"The cost to the Suns will be forward Isaiah Todd and first-round pick swaps in 2024 and 2030, sources said. The Grizzlies will have the right in those years to swap their own first for the lesser of the Suns/Washington Wizards' first-round selections, sources said."

Prior to this trade, the Suns had no control over their first or second-round picks through 2030. Though the three second-round picks may seem minor, those will give Phoenix either the flexibility to use those in future trades or continue to bring in younger talent to develop - something that will be of importance but still on the backburner as a franchise-first NBA title is still on the forefront of everyone's mind.
