One key difference in this game and both teams’ season opener is that Pacers’ big man Myles Turner is back in the line-up. Without Turner, the Wizards were able to Without Turner, the Wizards were able to dominate the paint for the duration of their first game this season. There was much anticipation for Kristaps Porzingis and Turner matchup, which promises to be the key match-up that everyone wanted to see during the season opener.

This page will be updated quarter by quarter with game notes

First Quarter Notes

This is already a much different Pacers team than on opening night. There were four lead changes early but the Pacers have led the way by as many as 15 points. Pacers are ahead of the Wizards in just about every category and is much better defensively. Wizards are only shooting 37% but a huge Kyle Kuzma three pointer at the end of the quarter could be what the Wizards need to give them some more energy in the second quarter.

Second Quarter Notes

Bradley Beal is struggling with back soreness but is still leading Wizards players in scoring so far with 15 points.

Recently Coach Wes Unseld Jr complimented the team on their consistent defensive play, yet that is where they are lacking this evening as the Pacers have scored 75 points in the first half. The Wizards field goal percentage did improve this quarter to 51% but without the defensive play, they have not been able to get within reach of the Pacers. The Wizards also have eight turnovers, which is not what you want to see at halftime of the game. Wizards are still having some success in the paint (24 points) but not nearly as much as they did in their opening night match-up.

Halftime Score: Wizards - 60, Pacers - 75

Third Quarter Notes

Every time it seemed like the Wizards were going to make the game interesting, the calls just weren’t going their way. Nor was the basketball going in the hoop. They did get within seven toward the end of the quarter but the Pacers yet again pulled away. Two Wizards turnovers this quarter bringing their total turnovers to 10.

Wizards – 90, Pacers – 101.

Fourth Quarter Notes

Both Kyle Kuzma and Porzingis in a bit of foul trouble with four fouls each.

The Wizards turn up the intensity on defense and make two huge offensive plays.

At 4:55 left in the game, they bring the score to 108, Pacers 114.

A minute later, the Pacers already increase the lead to 121, Wizards still at 108.

Of note, Wizards guard Monte Morris dished out a career-high 12 assists, passing his previous high of 10.

The Pacers return the first loss at home of the season favor back to the Wizards. Final score: Wizards - 117, Pacers - 127.
