The Carolina Panthers had a breakout 2013 season, going 12-4 and winning the NFC South. But the offseason, Carolina lost its top three receiving targets in Steve Smith, Ted Ginn Jr. and Brandon LaFell. Smith, the franchise's all-time leader in receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns, was released and signed with the Baltimore Ravens

The Panthers drafted Florida State wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin and signed free agent Jerricho Cotchery in an effort to rebuild the receiving corps. The team suffered blows to other units when left tackle Jordan Gross retired and safety Mike Mitchell departed in free agency.
