Jerry Rice: 49ers should bench Ray McDonald

The seventh-year pro is currently serving a three-game suspension for a repeat violation of the NFL's substance abuse policy after he pleaded guilty to careless driving and refusing to submit to a chemical test in January. He was stopped in November on suspicion of drunk driving but had a DUI charge dropped.

Simpson was also suspended three games in 2012 after police found a marijuana shipment at his home while he was playing for the Cincinnati Bengals in 2011. He was convicted of a felony for the incident.

A member of the Vikings since 2012, Simpson had a career-high 726 receiving yards last season and entered 2014 as the Vikings' third receiver behind Greg Jennings and Cordarrelle Patterson. He re-signed with Minnesota on a one-year deal before this season.
