Reports: Ex-Jets coach Rex Ryan will interview with Falcons, 49ers

Publish date:

Former New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan will interview with the San Francisco 49ers and Atlanta Falcons, according to multiple reports. Brian Costello of the New York Postwas first to report the news.

Ryan and Jets GM John Idzik were fired Monday after the team finished 4-12 this season. Ryan, 52, had a 46-50 record in six seasons with the Jets. He led his team to the AFC championship game in each of his first two seasons but failed to finish above .500 in the next four.

Ryan is a defensive-minded coach, having served as the defensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens before being hired by the Jets. Atlanta and San Francisco have also requested permission to interview a pair of offensively-inclined coaches: Adam Gase and Josh McDaniels, the offensive coordinators of the Denver Broncos and New England Patriots, respectively.
