Former Packers coach Mike Sherman to coach at Cape Cod high school
Spurred by a desire to not move his family once more, former Green Bay Packers and Texas A&M head coach Mike Sherman will coach high school football for Nauset Regional in Eastham, Mass., the Cape Cod Timesreported Saturday.
Sherman, 60, coached the Packers from 2000 to 2005, amassing a 57–39 regular-season record and leading Green Bay to three straight NFC North titles. He was also the head coach at Texas A&M from 2008 to 2011 and most recently coached as the Miami Dolphins’ offensive coordinator from 2012 to 2013.
After the Dolphins let him go, Sherman spent the past two seasons living on Cape Cod and doing “occasional consulting work” for NFL and college teams, according to the Times.

“I felt after Miami I couldn’t put my family through another move,” Sherman told the Times. “My wife Karen has put up with a lot in regard to my career and was happy to have unpacked her last box. We’ve been coming here almost every summer over the last 30-plus years as a family so we felt this was a natural fit for us to call Cape Cod home.”
Sherman replaces Keith Kenyon, who stepped down as head coach to take a job as an assistant principal at Nauset High. Over five seasons, Kenyon posted a 31–24 record.
Sherman was born in Norwood, Mass., and attended Algonquin Regional High School, about 120 miles from Nauset High. After playing football at Central Connecticut State, he launched his coaching career in 1978 as the head coach at Stamford High School in Connecticut.

He spent the following two seasons at Worcester Academy in Massachusetts before getting his first big coaching break, a graduate assistant job at Pittsburgh in 1981.
Sherman currently lives in Dennis, Mass., about 18 miles from Nauset High.
“It took me a while to pull the trigger,” Sherman said. “It hasn’t been an easy decision because I wanted to make sure I was all 100 percent in. The kids deserve that from their coach. I’ve loved coaching in the NFL and college for the last 33 years, but I am definitely looking forward to working with the kids at Nauset.”
