Giants linebacker Jon Beason was concussed in the first quarter of Sunday night’s game against the 49ers and will not return, the team announced

Beason was injured on the Giants’ first defensive series while attempting to tackle San Francisco running back Carlos Hyde.

Beason, the team’s starting middle linebacker, missed the first two games of the season with a knee injury. He also missed 12 games last season with a foot injury.

Uani ’Unga, who started while Beason was injured earlier this year, assumed the middle linebacker duties after Beason left the game. The Giants were already shorthanded at linebacker with starting outside linebacker Devon Kennard sidelined by a hamstring injury and backup Jonathan Casillas dealing with a calf problem.
