Cam Newton was named NFL MVP on Saturday night.

Panthers quarterback Cam Newton was named NFL MVP on Saturday night at the league’s annual awards show.

Despite losing one of his top targets, Kelvin Benjamin, to injury, Newton threw for 3,837 yards during the regular season and finished tied for second in the league with 35 touchdown passes. He added 636 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground for the NFC champion Panthers.

The fifth-year signalcaller from Auburn was also selected as the league’s MVP by the Associated Press and named to his third Pro Bowl.

Newton was not in attendance to receive his award.
