Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart returned to Super Bowl 50 after sustaining a left foot injury in the first quarter.

Stewart limped off the field under his own power after a second-down run. After the Broncos scored a defensive touchdown on a Malik Jackson fumble recovery, Stewart did not take the field to begin the next series and was seen testing his ankle on the sidelines while still wearing his cleats. He returned to the game late in the quarter after the team declared that he was questionable to return.

Mike Tolbert replaced Stewart in the Panthers’ backfield and fumbled on the next drive, though Carolina recovered.

The Panthers trail the Broncos 10–0 after one quarter.
