Report: Cam Newton Expected to Return to Practice After Panthers' Bye Week

Cam Newton expected to return after bye week

Panthers quarterback Cam Newton is expected to be back at practice after the team's bye this week, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Monday.

According to Schefter, Newton's foot injury has "healed well," and the quarterback will likely be healthy when the team returns to action in Week 8. Carolina will determine who gets the starting nod when Newton officially returns.

Kyle Allen, an undrafted free agent, has gone 4-0 as the starting quarterback in Newton's absence.

Allen has completed 65.6 percent of his passes for 901 yards with seven touchdowns, no interceptions and a 106.6 quarterback rating, which ranks fifth in the NFL.

Newton has missed the past four weeks due to a mild Lisfranc sprain. He completed just 56.2% of his passes for 572 yards and one interception in this first two games of the season, both losses.

The Panthers will face the undefeated 49ers on Sunday, Oct. 27.
