Fantasy Football: Week 8 RB Rankings

RB Start of the Week: Chase Edmonds, Arizona Cardinals (at NO)
Playing a position-high 94% of his team’s snaps last week, Chase Edmonds exploded for a 150-yard, three-touchdown performance on 29 touches against the Giants.
Scoring more fantasy points than any other running back last week, Edmonds has now scored in three consecutive games with double-digit fantasy points (half-PPR scoring) in each of those outings. During that span, the second-year back is averaging 5.7 yards per carry with 303 scrimmage yards and five total touchdowns.
After three soft matchups against the Bengals, Falcons and Giants, respectively, Edmonds and the Cardinals face a stiffer challenge in Week 8 against the Saints. New Orleans has allowed the third-fewest fantasy points to opposing running backs this season and the Cardinals are double-digit underdogs this week.
That said, the additions of Alfred Morris and Zach Zenner to the backfield bode well for Edmonds to get another large workload. Their signings could mean we don’t see David Johnson in Week 8 and DJ didn’t practice on Wednesday. Despite the difficult matchup, Edmonds could turn a high usage rate into high-end RB2 production in Week 8 if Johnson is indeed inactive.
RB Sit of the Week: Joe Mixon, Cincinnati Bengals (at LAR)
Even with the team’s offensive line issues, few could have expected a healthy Joe Mixon to score only the 34-most fantasy points (half-PPR) through Week 7.
Things have been even worse more recently as Mixon rushed for two yards on 10 carries in Week 7 and added a two-yard receiving score. Over the past two weeks, he has a total of 18 carries for 12 yards. His median rushing yardage this season is 17 yards.
Negative game script has worked against Mixon as the winless Bengals have the fifth-worst scoring margin (-72) this season. No team has higher pass-play percentage than the Bengals (70.78%), but Mixon has only one or two receptions in three consecutive games and in five of seven this season.
Nearly two-touchdown underdogs against the Rams, the Bengals have the fourth-lowest implied total based on Week 8 Vegas odds.
