Fantasy Football: Week 9 WR Rankings

WR Start of the Week: D.J. Chark, Jacksonville Jaguars (vs. HOU)
D.J. Chark had a season-high 12 targets last week and parlayed those opportunities into a 6/79/1 line. Through Week 8, the breakout receiver has 39 receptions for 660 yards (16.9 Y/R) and six touchdowns. Regardless of scoring format, Chark has performed as a top-five receiver this season.
Chark now has either 70 scrimmage yards and/or a touchdown in six of eight games. The second-year receiver will face the division-rival Texans for the second time this season and he had seven catches for 55 yards and a score in his first matchup.
Only the Eagles have allowed more fantasy points to opposing wide receivers than the Texans, who just lost J.J. Watt for the season. Gardner Minshew II will have just a little more time to find the speedster out of LSU on Sunday.
WR Sit of the Week: Larry Fitzgerald, Arizona Cardinals (vs. SF)
The season could not have started much better for Larry Fitzgerald. The veteran wideout turned double-digit targets each week into back-to-back 100-yard games to begin his 2019 campaign. It’s been all downhill since then.
After several modest weeks, Fitzgerald now has a total of three catches for 20 yards in his two most recent games. Rookie Kyler Murray has also struggled in those games with zero passing touchdowns and Fitzgerald, like Murray, gets a difficult matchup in Week 9.
Not only does San Francisco have the league’s stingiest pass defense (128.7 YPG allowed), but they have limited opposing quarterbacks to 100 passing yards or less in three of four games. Kyle Allen (158 yards last week) was the exception and the 49ers not allowed a receiving score in their past four games.
Fitzgerald should have a better game than he has had in the past two weeks, but the odds of a big game like early September are slim to none.
