Broncos to Sign RB Samaje Perine, per Report

The Broncos will have a new-look offense next season under coach Sean Payton. On Tuesday, the team added some experience to its backfield that will provide depth on that side of the ball.

Denver reportedly has agreed to terms with free agent running back Samaje Perine, according to Denver7’s Troy Renck. The deal will be worth $7.5 million over two years.

Perine, 27, has spent the past three seasons with the Bengals, serving as the primary backup to Joe Mixon. Perine has proven to be a versatile receiving target out of the backfield, hauling in 38 catches for 287 yards and four touchdowns in 2022—all career highs.

The Broncos did not have a particularly effective pass-catching running back last season. Melvin Gordon III, currently a free agent, led Denver’s backs with 223 receiving yards on 25 catches. Veteran Latavius Murray returns to the team after hauling in 26 catches for just 124 yards (4.8 per reception) and no scores.

Perine, a fourth-round draft pick in 2017, has averaged 4.4 yards per carry over the past three seasons.
