Commanders Make Offer to RFA Jeremy Reaves, Release JD McKissic

The Commanders have tendered a qualifying offer to restricted free agent safety Jeremy Reaves and released running back JD McKissic, the team announced Tuesday.

Reaves has spent the past five seasons in Washington and emerged with a career year in 2022 as a special teamer. The veteran was named to the Pro Bowl and earned first-team All-Pro recognition last season for his role on Washington’s special teams, which included a very emotional viral moment of coach Ron Rivera informing Reaves of his Pro Bowl selection.

McKissic is a veteran running back who played for the Commanders for three seasons after stops with the Seahawks and Lions. In 2022, he played in just eight games for Washington, as he battled injuries throughout the season. McKissic recorded 95 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 22 carries and 173 receiving yards on 27 catches in his final season with the Commanders.

By releasing McKissic, Washington saves $1.23 million in cap space, and the Commanders now enter NFL free agency with just under $20 million in available cap space.
