Vikings Previously Discussed Trey Lance Deal With 49ers, per Report

The Vikings and the 49ers were reportedly in discussion about a potential trade for quarterback Trey Lance during the NFL’s scouting combine, according to Pro Football Talk.

The news comes after rumors surfaced earlier this month that Kirk Cousins could potentially be traded to San Francisco. However, at the time, there were no details surrounding the rumor that the NFC West franchise was reportedly seeking another signal caller.

Per PFT, there are no specifics on if Minnesota is still seeking to acquire Lance. San Francisco is also reportedly listening to the possibilities of a trade for Lance, but there is no impending deal for the signal caller at this time.

The Vikings notably restructured Cousins’s contract in March, converting the quarterback’s base salary to a bonus and cutting nearly $16 million from his 2023 cap hit. However, if Minnesota were to trade Cousins before June 1, the Vikings would take a $38 million cap hit.

As Minnesota seeks to find its signal caller for the 2024 season and beyond, Lance is reportedly an option. But, he has been limited in his on-field opportunities.

Last season, Lance played in two games before suffering a season-ending ankle injury in Week 2, opening the door for Jimmy Garoppolo to take back the starting job despite San Francisco spending most of last offseason attempting to trade him.

In the last two seasons, Lance has played in only eight games while starting in four. In those games, he has recorded 797 passing yards, five touchdown passes and three interceptions with a 54.9% completion percentage.
