Georgia Quarterback Stetson Bennett Drafted by Rams

The wait is over for two-time national championship quarterback Stetson Bennett.

The Georgia star is heading to the Rams with the 128th pick. Bennett will sit behind Matthew Stafford—another former Bulldogs quarterback—as he acclimates himself to the NFL game and begins his professional career.

Bennett, who walked on at Georgia and eventually became the key cog for two national title teams in Athens, has been no stranger to adversity in his football career. Bennett overcame long odds and beat out multiple blue-chip quarterbacks to become the Bulldogs starter, eventually leaving Georgia as one of the most decorated signal callers in school history.

2023 NFL Draft Tracker

Bennett is not the prototypical professional quarterback prospect. He’s undersized with average arm talent. He’s also older than 16 current NFL quarterbacks. However, he’s accurate and a bona fide gamer, as he’s been at his best when the lights have been brightest.

While he has his detractions from a physical standpoint, Bennett also has to clean up his off-the-field conduct as well. He’s been arrested for public intoxication on multiple occasions, and will now have to prove to the Rams that he is focused on the task at hand as a professional.

Bennett finished his Georgia career completing 65.0% of his passes for 8,429 yards and 66 touchdowns to 21 interceptions. He finished fourth in last year’s Heisman voting in addition to winning the back-to-back national championships as Georgia’s starter.
