Broncos Sign Former Cowboys QB Ben DiNucci, per Report

The Broncos bolstered their quarterback room Sunday with the signing of former XFL and Cowboys quarterback Ben DiNucci, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

DiNucci, 26, has spent the last year away from the NFL after Dallas waived the 2020 seventh-round pick last August. This past spring, he made waves during a stint as a starter for the XFL’s Seattle Sea Dragons, an impressive run that earned him a training camp invitation from the Broncos.

While Sunday’s news doesn’t guarantee he’ll earn a roster spot, the opportunity will afford DiNucci a chance to compete for one this summer. In Denver, DiNucci will join a quarterback group that includes Russell Wilson, Jarrett Guarantano and Jarrett Stidham.

DiNucci’s first NFL stint is best remembered for his performance in his only NFL start during the 2020 season. The former James Madison QB filled in for an injured Andy Dalton for a Week 8 Sunday Night Football game against the Eagles, and completed 21 of 40 passes for 180 yards while taking four sacks and losing two fumbles in a 23-9 loss.

With Seattle, DiNucci, who appeared in three games with the Cowboys, showcased his improvement and made the most of his expanded role. The veteran QB led the XFL with 2,671 passing yards, and tossed 20 touchdown passes and 13 interceptions in 10 starts.
