Fiery Patrick Mahomes Shared Why He Wanted to Face Bengals in AFC Championship

Netflix’s new docuseries, Quarterback, was released Wednesday and NFL fans are loving the behind-the-scenes look at Patrick Mahomes, Kirk Cousins and Marcus Mariota during the 2022 NFL season. One particular moment is especially great when fans realize what was going on during that time.

Going into the AFC championship game in January, the Chiefs had yet to defeat the Bengals with Joe Burrow under center and this incited quite a bit of trash talk from Cincinnati players, who began referring to Arrowhead Stadium as “Burrowhead.”

When discussing who he’d rather play in the AFC championship game ahead of the Bills and Bengals squaring off in the divisional round, cameras caught Mahomes being as blunt as he has ever been.

“I think we match up better vs. the Bills, but I wanna play the Bengals,” Mahomes said. “I just wanna play em’, we haven’t beat em’, I’m tired of them talking.”

Mahomes got exactly what he wanted. Cincinnati beat Buffalo to advance and Kansas City went on to win the AFC championship game 23–20 in dramatic fashion. The Chiefs then went on to win Super Bowl LVII against the Eagles, and Mahomes hoisted his second Lombardi Trophy.
