Jets Will ‘Without a Doubt’ Contend for AFC East Title With Zach Wilson, Says Insider

With Aaron Rodgers out for the year following the torn Achilles suffered in Week 1, the Jets now hand control of their offense back over to Zach Wilson. The former No. 2 pick in the 2021 NFL draft has had an up-and-down start to his career, and was primed to be the season-long—if not longer—backup to Rodgers.

But following the chaotic Week 1 Monday Night Football game between the Jets and Bills, all eyes are back on Wilson. And while there are some skeptics and doubters, there are also plenty of believers, and NFL Insider Sal Paolantonio is apparently very much one of those believers.

Zach Wilson is chased by a Bills defender

Zach Wilson is receiving some praise with predictions about the Jets following the injury to Aaron Rodgers.

During a segment on ESPN’s Get Up, Paolantonio emphatically threw all his support behind Wilson and the Jets with a strong take.

“Without a doubt, [the Jets] will be in contention for the division title with Zach Wilson and that defense,” Paolantonio stated.

The back-and-forth debate over the outlook for the Jets this season will be ongoing, but one thing that appears nearly impossible to deny is just how good this team’s defense is.

The Jets held one of the NFL’s more talented offenses to just 314 total yards on Monday. More specifically, New York allowed quarterback Josh Allen to throw for only 236 yards with one touchdown, while intercepting him three times. The Jets also forced Allen to fumble twice, recovering one of them in the 22–16 overtime victory.
