Texans Rookie Tank Dell Makes His Outstanding Nickname Official

Texans rookie wide receiver Tank Dell has quickly built a strong rapport with quarterback C.J. Stroud. As the two continue to shine on the field, Dell has also been making some moves behind the scenes.

On Monday, the league officially recognized Dell’s nickname of “Tank” as his official name.

Per Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, Dell, whose real first name is Nathaniel, officially had his football name changed to “Tank Dell.”

“Please note that the football name of Houston’s Nathaniel Dell, WR, Houston (Player ID #55934) has been changed to Tank Dell,” said a note on the NFL’s transaction wire, via Pelissero.

Dell has been going by the nickname “Tank” since he was a child. His mother said she started calling him “Tank Head” when he was young because his head was so much larger than his body, according to the Houston Chronicle.

The 24-year-old was selected by Houston in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft, a move which Stroud reportedly requested from the organization on draft night.

In nine games this season, he’s racked up 42 receptions, 659 yards, and six touchdowns, including a career-best performance in Week 11, when he caught eight receptions for 149 yards and a touchdown.
