Giants Fulfill ‘Coming to America’ Prophecy With ‘MNF’ Win Over Packers, and Fans Were Amazed

It’s been 35 years since Eddie Murphy’s football prophecy in the hit 1988 film Coming to America, but once again, the Giants beat the Packers with a game-winning field goal, which evoked a classic scene from one of the most memorable acting performances of Murphy’s career.

In that scene, Prince Akeem asks Cleo McDowell if he “caught the professional football contest” in which the “Giants of New York … triumphed by kicking an oblong ball made of pigskin through a big H.”

Fast forward to Monday night, as quarterback Tommy DeVito and the Giants faced an uphill battle after a late surge by the Packers offense. Following a Jordan Love touchdown pass to Malik Heath to give Green Bay a 22–21 lead, DeVito and the New York offense took the field with 1:33 to play.

DeVito proceeded to complete all four passes on the ensuing drive for 53 yards, and marched the Giants right up the field. The eight-play, 57-yard march culminated with a 37-yard field goal by Randy Bullock as time expired, giving the Giants a 24–22 victory to keep the team’s playoff hopes alive.

Naturally, the Coming to America clip went viral after the ending of Monday night’s game matched the iconic scene from the 35-year-old movie. Here are some of the best reactions to Murphy’s prophecy from social media.
