Patriots OL Trent Brown Throws Perceived Shade at Team As Ravens Sign Malik Cunningham

Shortly after the Ravens’ reported signing of Patriots practice squad quarterback Malik Cunningham, New England offensive tackle Trent Brown posted what appeared to be a subtle jab at his organization for its treatment of Cunningham when he was with the franchise this season.

“Go flourish where your talent is respected lil bradda, 4L,” Brown posted on his Instagram story.

It’s been a strange rookie season for Cunningham. The former Louisville quarterback signed with the Patriots after going undrafted and put together a solid preseason.

Cunningham started his rookie campaign on New England’s practice squad. He signed a three-year deal to the active roster Oct. 15 but was cut just 10 days later, landing back on the practice squad. Cunningham served as the team’s backup and third-string quarterback at various points throughout the season.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter was first to report the Ravens’ signing of Cunningham, who will reunite with former Louisville teammate Lamar Jackson in Baltimore. Cunningham served as Jackson’s backup with the Cardinals in 2017 before Jackson declared for the 2018 NFL draft.

Cunningham’s only official statistic this season is a five-yard loss on a sack in an Oct. 15 loss to the Raiders. He played six offensive snaps in New England’s 21–17 loss to the Raiders in Week 6.

As for the Patriots, Brown’s post sends messages of continued frustration in New England amid a lost season. The Patriots are 3–10, well out of playoff contention and firmly entrenched as one of the worst teams in the NFL.
