Richard Sherman Fires Back After Criticism for Supporting Both 49ers, Seahawks

As a former Seahawks and 49ers cornerback, Richard Sherman found himself facing scrutiny this week after voicing his support for San Francisco ahead of Week 15.

The criticism came after Sherman’s loyalties were called into question following his backing of 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy as the 2023 MVP on Thursday Night Football.

In response to the critics, Sherman took to social media on Saturday to fire back with a message reminding fans that, while he cherishes helping to bring Seattle its only Super Bowl in 2014, he still supports each of his former organizations.

Sherman, now an analyst for ‘Thursday Night Football,’ starred for the Seahawks and 49ers—two NFC West rivals—during his playing career.

“I will support the teams I played for,” Sherman wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “You need to remember we brought the city that Championship not vice versa. So I will support both the 49ers and the Seahawks. Acting like you gave me something like I owe something.

“You need to appreciate the team that brought you that and stay in your lane.”

With Sherman now likely hoping to move on, only time will tell whether he’ll receive grace from disgruntled Seahawks supporters, or, at the very least, former teammate Marshawn Lynch.
