Jets’ Zach Wilson Hid Concussion Symptoms From Doctors to Keep Playing, Mother Says

Lisa Wilson, the mother of Jets quarterback Zach Wilson, revealed on social media that he attempted to conceal his concussion symptoms Sunday before he eventually was ruled out of the team’s 30-0 loss to the Dolphins with a concussion.

Wilson left Sunday’s contest late in the second quarter. He was examined in the team’s medical tent and replaced by Trevor Siemian in the Jets’ final drive of the first half.

In the third quarter, the Jets announced that Wilson was ruled out with a concussion. Wilson’s mother wrote on her Instagram story Monday that the Jets signal-caller was experiencing symptoms after some “really big hits” but did not let coaches know about them because he still wanted to play.

In nearly 25 minutes of playing time, the Dolphins sacked Wilson four times and brought relentless pressure on the third-year quarterback during his time on the field. Ultimately, Wilson didn’t leave the game until he started having “blurred vision” and problems with his “depth perception,” according to his mother.

She also said the team hadn’t disclosed any further information beyond coach Robert Saleh’s statement that people “from up top” wanted to review Wilson for a “possible head injury” that resulted in his being placed in concussion protocol.

Wilson finished the game with a 4-of-11 passing performance for 26 yards. The Jets (5–9) have lost six of their past seven games and will seek to bounce back when they play host to the Commanders (4–10) on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
