Falcons Interview Jim Harbaugh for Head Coaching Vacancy

The Atlanta Falcons have interviewed Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh for the head coach job with the franchise, the team announced Tuesday night.

Harbaugh is one of the hottest names in the current NFL hiring cycle, fresh off a national championship win with the Michigan Wolverines—having reached the peak of the collegiate football world, Harbaugh might be tempted back to the NFL. His last job in the league was as coach of the San Francisco 49ers, from 2011 to ’14, just before his jump to Michigan.

It’s not the only high-profile interview the Falcons have made this week, with the team announcing that leadership had met with former New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick on Monday.

The Falcons also listed several other coaches with whom they have completed interviews, including:

  • Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald
  • Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan
  • San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Steve Wilks
  • Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero
  • Baltimore Ravens assistant head coach/defensive line coach Anthony Weaver

The Falcons aren’t the only team to speak with Harbaugh thus far, as the Michigan coach also met with the Chargers earlier this week.

With plenty of great coaches available and plenty of openings to fill, the NFL is looking at one wild hiring cycle ahead.
